All dentists and hygienists provide home whitening at Dental Elegance. There are two types we offer; home whitening and in-surgery whitening. Both techniques use a gel system which contains the whitening agent.
What is home whitening?
Having treatment at home allows patients to benefit from whitening results in the comfort of their own home. This technique means your teeth gradually lighten, usually over 2 weeks.
How does home whitening work?
The treatment involves the dentist or hygienist taking an impression of your teeth to provide you with your custom-made trays. You are provided with the trays and a number of gels which contain the whitening agent. The gel is placed into the trays and worn for a certain period of time. In most cases, this is around 35 minutes a day for 2 weeks, or until you are happy with the colour of your teeth. At-home whitening treatments are effective and can be topped up to preserve the results. Once you have the trays, you can buy the gels from us if you require more.
What is in-surgery whitening?
This procedure is undertaken in the dental surgery. The appointment lasts around 2 hours, and teeth are instantly lighter. We recommend that home whitening is followed up after in-surgery whitening.
How does in-surgery whitening work?
The treatment involves taking the shade of your teeth before the procedure. We use a protective gel and some cotton wool rolls to protect your gums and lips from the whitening agent. We place the whitening gel onto your teeth and then an LED light is used, which activates the gel for 15 minutes. The gel is then removed off of your teeth. This process is repeated another 3 times. We will always make sure you are comfortable throughout the treatment. At the end, we will remove all the whitening gel and gum protection. We take final photos and a shade guide will be used again to measure the results, which will be instant. We then provide you with the home whitening kit to top-up to preserve the results.
Home whitening kits provide results over a longer time scale, whereas in-surgery tooth whitening offers immediate results. A combination of the two provides the perfect solution to both immediate and long-term whitening needs.
