Meet your specialist
Dr Kashif Qureshi is an Ophthalmic surgeon, who qualified from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals in 1999, and became a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2004. Currently working in Manchester as an Ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Qureshi has an interest in oculoplastic surgery.
What can facial rejuvenation achieve?
It is natural for the skin to lose its elasticity as we age. This is because the tissues that keep the skin firm (collagen and elastin) become weaker. These changes lead to fine lines, sagging skin and other unwanted signs of ageing. Facial rejuvenation can effectively reduce wrinkles and tighten loose skin, giving you a more youthful look. At the practice, we are able to offer Botulinim (Botox®/Dysport) and dermal fillers (Teosyal®) to achieve the result you want.
Botulinum injections (Botox/Dysport)
Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®/Dysport®) is effective at reducing lines and wrinkles associated with facial expression. Botulinum toxin injections are commonly used to treat lines between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose, forehead lines and furrows and crow's feet.
How does it work?
The injections temporarily block the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles, which cause wrinkles and lines allowing these to relax. The treatment can also result in a brow lift.
What are the results like?
The results are very good and reproducible. Generally, the initial effect is seen within 3 days and the maximum effect is seen 7 days after treatment. This lasts approximately 3-4 months. Regular maintenance treatment every 3-4 months prevents recurrence. Botulinim toxin injections can also be used in conjunction with dermal fillers for deep lines.

Is it safe?
Botulinum has been used in the field of medical cosmetic treatment for over 15 years and is considered a very safe medication with a long track record. There have been no reported long term ill effects from the use of botulinum injections. Botulinum toxin has been used by Ophthalmic surgeons for over 30 years to treat facial spasms and squints, safely, with no long term side effects.
Are the injections painful?
The injections are very quick and simple to perform and are only associated with minor discomfort.
Dermal fillers
Hyaluronic acid is a natural, major component of our skin. Its hydrating, lubricating and viscoelastic properties make the face well-rounded, smooth and well-defined. These qualities deteriorate with age: the upper and lower cheeks become sunken, wrinkles appear and the face's oval shape is lost, affecting its overall shape. Teosyal® is a 100% hyaluronic acid based dermal filler which compensates for this loss, enabling the skin to remain hydrated and plump.
How does it work?
Teosyal® is injected under the wrinkle to lift it from the inside and make it lessen instantaneously, thanks to the volume created. Teosyal® has an immediate lifting and volume-producing effect, providing an alternative to surgery. It enables the curves and contours of the face to be redefined.
What are the results like?
The results are very good and immediately visible. Depending on your age and structure of your face, 1 to 3 initial sessions will be needed to achieve the desired effect. The lasting effect of Teosyal® is increased with successive sessions.

Is it safe?
Teosyal® is used in over 86 countries worldwide with over 400,000 treatments having been carried out. Teosyal has one of the lowest protein levels on the market therefore side effects are extremely low. Teosyal® was recently voted the winner of the Injectable Product of the Year at the 2008 Aesthetic Medicine Awards.
Are the injections painful?
The injection session lasts an average of thirty minutes and only causes slight discomfort. If you are sensitive to injections, particularly when treating the sensitive lip area, your specialist may suggest an anaesthetic cream or local anaesthetic to completely numb the area to be injected.
Are there side effects?
Complications in the hands of a trained and experienced ophthalmic surgeon are very rare and all precautions are taken to minimise any risks. Some bruising may occur but the risk of this is minimised by applying firm pressure immediately after the injections. It is, however, important to let us know if you have a bleeding disorder, or if you are using anti-coagulants such as warfarin or aspirin, or arthritis medications such as ibuprofen.
